We want to be able to help other families who painfully experience the loss of their child/children. The first way we do this is by helping to lift some, if not all, of the financial burden associated with final expenses. As I said earlier, the grief is burden enough. We work carefully with the family or friends of the family to try and figure out what the need is because it is different for every family. We have also developed relationships with local funeral home directors. They will call us when there is a family who has no other means to respectfully and properly bury their child. It is so very important to the grieving/healing process to know you have laid your child to rest in a way that honors them.
Emotional support is as important if not more important than financial. We reach out to these hurting families with cards/ notes of encouragement. We send them a beautiful book written by a woman who lost two children. The One Year Book Of Hope by Nancy Guthrie. It was the most helpful to us as we grieved. And Jody and I facilitate a grief recovery group through our church which we invite these parents to attend.
A side note: I am proud to say that in developing relationships with funeral home directors, I have come to find out that most of them do these services at their cost when it involves an infant or small child. Thank You!
We have only known Savannah Smiles for a short time. In the last year, they have helped a lot of families get through this very difficult time in their life without worrying about where they are going to come up with the money to bury their child. The families have enough to worry about. Jennifer and Jody, and the rest of the people at Savannah Smiles make it so they don't have to worry about money. We thank God for Savannah Smiles.
